EDUCATION AND LEARNING
Our mission
We are a group of brain experts who want to learn how the human brain changes, from birth to adolescence, to prevent, diagnose and treat children with brain disorders.
About C-PIP
The Canadian Pediatric Imaging Platform (C-PIP) is studying how the brain develops using magnetic resonance imaging, also known as MRI. The project aims to learn more about how the brain changes across life. The project will also look at how conditions, like preterm birth or concussion, can disrupt the brain’s development.
C-PIP will make it easier for experts to share data between research sites in a secure way. This makes it possible for different researchers to use the same data to answer different questions.

Our purpose
Improving Diagnoses
Our advanced brain imaging technology and tools will improve the diagnostic accuracy of many childhood brain disorders.
Ensuring Child-Friendly, High-Quality Brain Images
Our mandate is to collect the highest quality brain data while making the experience enjoyable for children. An MRI scanner is an incredible machine that allows scientists to take several types of pictures of the brain in a very safe environment. Unlike x-ray machines, MRIs do not involve radiation. Your child will be able to watch an age-appropriate movie as our team collects images of your child’s brain.
Enhancing Collaboration
Our platform will foster collaboration with brain experts from around the world, to help develop tools to improve accuracy in diagnosing childhood brain disorders and to develop treatment and preventative methods to help these children.
Streamlining Brain Data Workflow
Our platform aims to optimize the workflow of healthcare professionals involved in pediatric imaging, making it more efficient, reducing the time required for diagnosis and treatment planning.
Helping to Facilitate Research
Our study will enable healthcare professionals and expert researchers to study and analyze pediatric brain data for a better understanding of various conditions, treatments, and outcomes for children.
Improving Accessibility
We aim to collect brain data from children, ages 36 weeks to 17 years, who can lie still in an MRI scanner for 30 to 45 minutes. This includes typically developing children, neurodiverse children, and those with mobility, learning, metabolic, hearing, or visual challenges. Our goal is to gather a diverse group that represents the gender and ethnicity of our communities, and we are committed to making the study accessible for all interested families.
Our goal is to recruit
800
children
from across Canada
C-PIP is looking to recruit participants to come to one of our hospitals once per year over 3 years.
